1. Sell printables online (my #1 pick!)

Yup, you guessed it, another great online option to help figure out how to make $10,000 a month. Making money online is where it’s at these days. Besides, it’s so easy with all the tools available to you.

Making and selling printables for extra cash is such a hot niche right now, especially if you focus on the right kind of printables. Some profitable printables are…

  • Kids printables – coloring, activity, etc.
  • Organization – home, shopping list, cleaning list, to-do’s, etc.
  • Diet & fitness planners – meal planning, trackers, etc.

You might be a bit skeptical about the profit potential of printables, but let’s dispel that myth right now. Sarah Titus makes over $4,000,000 a year selling printables on Shopify! Now, it’s taken her a handful of years to get to this level, but she was making over $10,000 a month fairly quickly.

There are a few things you’ll want to keep in mind when creating and selling your printables.

  • Have an eye for design – you’ll want to know what’s trending right now. Such as watercolor designs, geometric style, rustic style, bold colors or pastels, etc.
  • What do people need – templates, worksheets, checkoff lists, guided workbooks, kids activity sheets, etc.
  • What is your brand – know who you are and who your target audience is. Your printables should cater to this group.

Tools you’ll need to sell printables

  • A design program – you can easily start with Canva in the beginning (they even have a free plan option), but as you grow, you’ll want to upgrade to more sophisticated programs like Adobe Illustrator.
  • A selling platform – you’ll need a place to sell your printables. I recommend Shopify, as it’s very user-friendly and budget-friendly. Of course, you can sell on Etsy, printables are trendy, but that also means there’s a lot of competition there.
  • A PayPal account (optional) – this is an easy one to do, as they are free 🙂 But you’ll want to keep your business funds separate from your personal funds. It makes things a lot easier and less messy.

Learning how to make printables

Now, I know that creating printables to sell sounds easy, but I was honestly surprised at all the small intricacies that go into it. With all of the ideas in this post, there’s the easy way (taking a course from a great teacher), and then there’s the hard way (learning on your own).

For the longest time, I did things the hard way. I didn’t have the money to spend on courses. What I didn’t realize is how much those courses save – save you time, save you frustration, save you endless mistakes and roadblocks. I WISH that I had bought more courses when I was starting out.

When I finally did get a course, creating printables was so easy! Here’s the Better Budget Workbook that I made.

If you’re brand new to printables and have no idea where to start, or maybe you’re a little bit further along in your journey, and you *have* made some things to sell…but you’re not seeing the sales you want, and you feel like it’s just too competitive out there.

I’m here to tell you that it IS possible to make good money selling digital products on Etsy… but you have to have a plan. You can’t just wing it and hope for the best.

But how do I know it’s profitable? Because Julie & Cody from Gold City Ventures have done it themselves, and we’re talking seven-figure revenue here! (that’s a lot of zeros!)

They created a hugely popular E-Printables Side Hustle course, which shows you exactly how to do what they did. This is a step-by-step guide that covers everything you need to know to get started selling printables on Etsy.

In this course, you’ll learn how to:

  • Create designs from scratch in several different programs
  • Research best-selling digital product ideas for Etsy using eRank
  • Drive sales with keyword research and our seasonal product strategy
  • Optimize your time to get more products listed faster
  • And so much more!

One of the best parts of the course is that they show how to make a ton of printables with over-the-shoulder videos; you get to watch it step by step (and you can make your own at the same time). It couldn’t be easier. Well, it does get easier because, in addition to showing you how to make it, they give you 20 free templates that you can use today to make your own digital products.

Gold City Ventures E-Printables Course

They also have a massive module on doing keyword research (which is one of the most important things when selling on Etsy. This step ensures that you are making what’s selling and that customers find what you’re selling when they search for a product.

Doing keyword research is a fine art, so don’t skip this step when starting your shop. If you do, you could risk spending hundreds of hours on your shop and seeing only a few sales, which can be very discouraging.

Another thing that I really liked about the course is that they go through all the legal speak when using templates, graphics, fonts, etc. As there are a ton of details you need to know about using & selling templates (i.e., commercial licenses vs. limited vs. personal use, etc.). You never want to be on the receiving end of a letter that says you owe someone $3,000 for using their content in your printables! Yikes!

The E-Printables Side Hustle Course is only open a few times a year, so if you’re interested, be sure to check it out ASAP, as you don’t want to miss the open course window! (They have a waitlist to get on, so you’ll be notified when they open the doors).

If you’re not sure if making printables is right for you (but you’re curious), be sure to check out their free workshop, where you’ll get the cliff notes (along with some great insider tips) on selling printables on Etsy. This can help you decide if this is the right side hustle for you.

Or, if you already have an Etsy printables shop and want to uplevel your offerings, you can grab their free eBook, The Seasonal Products Secret, on making massive sales with seasonal printables.

1. How to earn $10k a month by opening an Etsy shop

If you’re creative and love to make things by hand, Etsy is an excellent platform for you to sell your crafts.

According to their site, “In 2017, over $300 million worth of goods were sold on Etsy by more than two million sellers.” That’s a lot of people selling handmade items!

If you like being crafty but aren’t sure what to try and make, check out The Best Etsy Shop Ideas and How to Make Money on Etsy From Day One!

To make $10,000 a month, you must concentrate on larger or more expensive products (such as furniture or unique items). The most costly item accessible on the site is a Valentina TY beanie baby (with errors) for $20,000. Who knew?

Here are some Etsy Shop stats to showcase the potential…

  • PlannerKate1 – sells stickers & organization items
    • Averages 674 daily sales, with price points ranging from $.75 – $15; let’s be conservative and say the average sale is $5, so 674 x $5 = $3,370 a day
    • $3,370 a day x 30 days = $101,100 a month in sales
  • CaitlynMinimalist – sells personalized jewelry ( I have three pieces from this shop, and I love each one!)
    • Averages 492 sales a day, with price points of $5 – $63; let’s be conservative and say the average sale is $10, so $492 x $10 = $4,920 a day
    • $4,920 a day x 30 days = $147,600 a month in sales

Etsy does charge a fee for each item listed and fees for using PayPal. Check out how much you’ll be charged and figure out where your break-even point is since there are also PayPal costs to consider.

If you enjoy working with your hands but don’t know how to create anything, there is no issue! Craftsy allows you to learn how to make various crafts, baked goods, learn photography skills, and more. Right now, they’re offering 25% off their Craftsy classes!

3. Flip items from flea markets to earn $10,000 a month

You can easily make $10,000 in a month by flipping items you find. You need to have a good eye for what sells and be good at rehab. If you want to learn more about flipping, check out our post on the 25 best items to flip for profit.

Rob from Flea Market Flipper started flipping items in 1996 on eBay, just as something fun to do. In 2015, their income was over $42,000, putting about 10-20 hrs a week, and in 2016 Rob & Melissa now earn over $133,000 with 15-30 hours a week!

The couple says it’s common for beginners to earn anywhere from $200 – $2,500 per month in their first year of flipping. The biggest question is how much time you have to devote to this side hustle. However, even at $500 a month in earnings, it’s a fantastic addition to your income. You can start slowly and work up to making $200 a day with flipping!

  4. Can you buy these items second-hand?
  5. Where do people go to buy these things? Where do they go to sell them? Find these places.
  6. What supplies do you need? What space do you need? (i.e., rehabbing furniture requires a large area and a truck to haul it).
  7. What skills do you need to rehab these items? (You can find out how to do almost anything by taking some online classes. Check out Udemy, Coursera, and Skillshare. I guarantee your topic is on one of these platforms!

4. Become a virtual assistant and make 10k in a month

If you have any administrative or organizational skills, becoming a virtual assistant is a great way to make extra money from home. Tasks can include social media management, customer service, travel arrangements, etc.

The VA industry is booming these days, especially with the growth of small businesses, as these business owners need help but may not be able to afford to hire a full-on worker.

Abbey Ashley was struggling to make money. She tried selling jeans on eBay and making freezer meals for busy moms, but nothing was working. She was desperate, she said, “We were newly married, newly pregnant, and completely broke.”

One day, she clicked buy on a laptop from Craigslist as she decided she wanted to be a virtual assistant (as a friend told her about how she was making some money from home).

She scraped together info and used her time management and organization skills to become a fully booked VA in 30 days. She was busy! She was so busy, in fact, that she hired a few of her friends to help her.

She taught them everything they needed to know, and others were asking her every day how to do it. She made a quick online course to show people what to do.

That online course has been updated, expanded, and released year after year, and she’s helped over 5,000 students make a full-time income while working part-time from home in their own online VA business.

If you think you’d love working whatever hours you want to work (2 hours here, and maybe 3 hours there, maybe half a day on Tuesday – it’s totally up to you!). Then you should check out Abbey’s free training – Become a Booked Out Virtual Assistant!

5. Create a course on Teachable and earn $10k a month online

Try becoming a course developer for your unique talent, whether it’s painting, knitting, or learning French. This is a fantastic way to supplement your income on a regular basis.

Online courses sell anywhere from $27 – $2,000. Yup, you read that right. But the larger ticket ones are very involved to make – so not a quick cash option. But once you make the course the first time, you can set up a sales funnel to continually drive customers to it passively.

Platforms like Teachable make it easy for you to create and sell your own courses, which is one of the best ways to make passive income (make it once and sell it multiple times). Not only that, but they handle all of the payment processing and customer service so you can focus on producing high-quality material.

Teachable charges a 5% commission on each course you sell, and you must join their membership platform. The membership plans range from $29 a month to $200 a month, including all the bells and whistles. There is a free plan, but it is somewhat restricted.

6. How to earn $10,000 a month by starting a blog

This is probably one of the most popular ways to make money with an online business. You can start your own blog with WordPress in just a few minutes. (But it will take considerably longer to get good at it.)

Start a blog about something you’re passionate about, and then find ways to monetize it. You can do this through affiliate marketing (more on that below), ads, selling digital or physical products, or even coaching or consulting.

To make $10,000 a month, you’ll need to pick a profitable niche and diversity your income streams.

Pat Flynn from Smart Passive Income has a net worth of over $3 million, all due to his blog! And Lindsay Ostrom from PinchofYum makes high six figures from her food blog through ad revenue, sponsored posts, products, and affiliate marketing.

I know that “starting a blog” sounds very overwhelming, you’ve heard so many stories from friends who tried and just couldn’t make it go anywhere, or worse yet, they couldn’t even get started as it was too technical and way too confusing.

But I bet they didn’t have a pro behind them, showing them precisely what to do with their blog. But you do have that pro, that step-by-step guide ensuring that you succeed!

Tracie Fobes has been blogging since 2009, and you may have heard of her hit site Penny Pinching Mom. Soon she was making six figures a month from her site and eventually sold it for a huge profit!

Now she shows new bloggers (just like you) how to set up their blogs the right way. She has the perfect introductory course, The Blogging Playbook. Which, you guessed it, takes you play by play in setting up your new blog.

I know jumping into a course isn’t for everyone, and Tracie knows that too. She’s made a great free workbook that you can use to get your ideas all out on paper, plan some basic ideas, and really see if this blog thing is for you. Again it’s a totally free workbook, so you have nothing to lose!

Tracie has the heart of a teacher; she takes time to answer people’s questions and gives them all the resources they need to execute the task correctly the first time! I know, as I am a three-time student of hers!

If you’ve already set up your blog, don’t worry; you can still learn from Tracie; she has so many different courses to help you grow a money-making blog.

7. How to earn 10,000 in a month as a virtual bookkeeper

Many small business owners and entrepreneurs struggle with bookkeeping and accounting. It can be a very time-consuming and tedious task, so it’s no wonder many people put it off or try to do it themselves and end up making mistakes.

That’s where the virtual bookkeeping business model comes in. You can offer your bookkeeping services remotely, which frees up business owners to focus on running their business. Plus, being virtual means that your client base opens up a lot.

Now, virtual bookkeepers earn a regular good paying salary. But where the real money comes in, the $10,000 a month earnings, is when you can showcase training & certification and specialize in a niche.

Now, you don’t officially need a license or certification to be a bookkeeper, but in the beginning, you need a way to show legitimacy, that you can do the job well. You can take some online courses or even get a certification to make yourself more marketable.

If you’re not sure if virtual bookkeeping is for you, I want you to go to Bookkeepers and take their free discovery series classes. Don’t worry; it’s not a math test; they’re three short video-based class that talks you through the process and the basics to see if this is a good fit for you.

Now Bookkeeppers.com is considered to be the Rolls Royce of online bookkeepers training. They do have a paid program, which is very thorough; you hit the ground with everything you need to get started. They say that their graduates make considerably more than the national average of $56k a year. That’s about $28 an hour, while bookkeepers.com veers into the $60 per hour range, which justifies the price tag of their training program.

Meet Brandy, who, within six months of starting her own virtual bookkeeping business (Legal Ease Bookkeeping), had five clients paying her $60/hour, which allowed her to quit her 9-5 job!

But again, you should always start with a company’s free training to see if you like their methods, teaching style, and customer service support.

During this free class about starting a virtual bookkeeping business, you will discover:

  1. Exactly what the business is (and is NOT)
  2. What you need to know (and have) before you start…are YOU a good fit
  3. The 3 step system to launch your own business.

8. Self publish a book and earn $10k a month

If you have a passion or expertise in a particular subject, you can share that knowledge by self-publishing a book. Or maybe you’ve always dreamed of becoming a romance novelist.

Hey, you may laugh, but Danielle Steel’s net worth is estimated at $390 million in 2021. All writing books about smooches. Sure it took her decades to get there, but she had to start at the beginning, just like all of us.

Selfpublishing.com said, “A major platform for indie writers is Amazon. As a tool, Amazon can be tricky to learn and master. But with a little research and a strong strategy, a self-published author can make $10,000+ per month publishing their own books on Amazon.”

Publishing a book isn’t as difficult as it sounds, and many platforms will help you with the process, such as Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing, Draft2Digital, and BookBaby.

Besides, self-publishing a book is a great way to jump in, gain experience, and move your career forward. You don’t want to be the person holding onto a manuscript for the past five years because it wasn’t quite perfect. Remember, perfect is the enemy of good enough, and good enough is a great place to start!

If you need to brush up on your writing skills or get some ideas for the creativity side, check out…

Once you’re comfortable with your writing skills and your book idea, you’ll need to turn your attention to self-publishing your book.

I know that the thought of making $10,000 a month seems like such a far off goal, so let’s start with a smaller goal of How to Make $200, and work our way up to that $10k mark.

9. How to make 10k a month by becoming a freelance writer

If you have a knack for writing, then becoming a freelance writer is a great way to make money. You can offer your services to both businesses and individuals who need content written for their websites, blog posts, or even marketing material, such as sales pages or marketing emails.

One of the great things about being a freelance writer is that you can do it from anywhere! All you need is a laptop and an internet connection. There’s no formal training or certification.

How to write quality articles

To become a freelance writer, you’ll need to know what “good content” is and how to write it. For example, how to write correctly (grammar, punctuation, citing, etc.). For that, Grammarly can help. It’s an online tool that takes helps you write mistake-free.

You’ll also want to know how to write for SEO; that’s the juice that drives traffic to people’s sites. Without good SEO, there’s no traffic and no profits for the business. This is especially important when you’re writing for small businesses and websites.

One of the most respected experts in the field is Mike from Stupid Simple SEO. He’s helped thousands of people learn how to do SEO the right way, and he can help you too! Check out his free SEO training, and learn how & why SEO is the key to skyrocketing traffic and profits!

Because when your writing brings in high-quality traffic, that website owner is guaranteed to give you more and more work!

But being a good writer and having all the technical writing pieces is only part of the puzzle. You need to know how to make money doing it; you need to create a legitimate freelance writing business.

How to have a freelance writing business

Now to get to the freelance writer side of the business, you’ll need a few things:

First, you should have a website where people can learn more about you and your services. Your website is like your office or shopfront, and it needs to look professional. You don’t need to spend a lot of money on it, but it should look clean, modern, and easy to navigate. Or, at the very least, a really good LinkedIn profile.

You’ll want to know how to pitch clients, develop your rates, invoice your projects, and create systems to make it all flow seamlessly. Don’t worry; you don’t have to spend hours on hours searching through Google for the answers to piece it all together.

Elna Cain built her freelance writing business part-time while staying home and taking care of twins. She now makes $1,200 for single pieces of work from huge clients (i.e., big-box retailers). Her course, Write Your Way to Your First $1k, is a step-by-step plan for becoming a profitable writer.

You won’t make $10k a month right off the bat, but it’s absolutely possible with consistency a little bit down the road.

If you’re not quite sure if freelance writing is for you (but you’re curious), Elna has a free mini-course on getting paid to write to help you get the ball rolling and see if it’s the perfect fit to be your new gig.

10. Start a YouTube channel

If you’re not into writing, perhaps starting a YouTube channel is more up your alley. You can share your tips and tricks on how to do things or just give people a glimpse into your life.

People love watching videos, and it’s a great way to connect with people and build a following. Plus, there are many ways to make money from it. You can place ads on your videos, offer people paid subscriptions, or use it as your main marketing channel for selling your products and services.

Check out Shelby Church (who has 1.7M subscribers) as she breaks down what YouTubers won’t tell you but what you need to know to start a successful YouTube channel.

Influencer Marketing Hub estimates that “On Average, the YouTube channel can receive $18 per 1,000 ad views. This equates to $3 – $5 per 1000 video views.”

Just for fun, MrBeast made $54 million from his 90 million subscribers in 2020, according to Forbes. Of course, that’s not normal, but knowing the possibilities are what drives the “what ifs…” we dream about.

Again, you don’t need formal training to start a YouTube channel. You just need a camera (or even your phone will do) and something to talk about in the beginning. Be sure to check out the free training straight from the pros…

Then once you see if this is the right venue for you, you’ll want to invest in some courses and training.

11. Become an online coach and earn $10k a month

With the growth of the internet economy, it’s no surprise that in-person specific activities can now be carried out online while still maintaining their structure and high level of quality.

Private coaching has expanded into a very lucrative business practice. In part because coaches may now service millions more clients and charge less than in-person sessions, making it more accessible to the general public.

You can be a life coach for productivity, health and wellness, spirituality, financial coaching, skills development, and even home-based business growth.

Let’s take a look at renowned coach Tony Robbins. His in-person seminars start at $650 and rise to $3,000 for higher-level access. When those who attended his event join up for his coaching program, which is said to cost up to $15,000 per year, that’s where the real money comes from.

Again, this isn’t something where you start right out of the gate making gobs of money. When you want to learn how to make $10k a month, you have to start small, get a few years under your belt, and then raise your rates to get to the pay you want.

But first, let’s dig into why you should consider being a life coach for your career.

So if you’ve decided that it’s for you, then let’s dig into the details. There are a variety of coaching certifications available, but most of them are niche-specific, so do your homework before investing in a program.

A good place to begin is the International Coaching Federation, where you’ll find information about the many kinds of programs and certificates. iPEC is also well recognized in the coaching business, so check it out. Here are a handful of smaller introductory courses to give you an idea of what’s involved.

12. Become a social media manager

As businesses and influencers grow, they quickly realize that they cannot do everything themselves and turn to social media managers (SMMs) to help with their online presence.

An SMM is responsible for creating and managing a company’s or individual’s social media accounts, posts, and engagement. This can include anything from tweets and Facebook updates to Instagram reels and pin creation for Pinterest.

“The salaries of Social Media Managers in the US range from $24,000 to $175,000, with a median salary of $58,000. The middle 57% of Social Media Managers makes between $58,000 and $93,500, with the top 86% making $175,000,” according to Comparably.

Some people get started in the industry by becoming a virtual assistant, and then they get a chance to see what they like, what they’re good at, and then they niche down.

You can take clients on all platforms – Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Tik Tok, etc., or you can specialize on just one platform and become an expert.

In the beginning, it’s best to have a broader focus so you can take on more work. Then build your name and reputation, then niche down to what you’re really good at, and then raise your rates (all experts charge more than general SMMs). A great place to start is…

To specialize in a single platform, check out…

If you want to know more about niching down as a SMM, then be sure to check out all the details on How to Become a Pinterest Manager. It goes into all the details on how to learn Pinterest from the content creator perspective, as well as the trainings to help you start your own business.

13. Earn 10k a month with affiliate marketing

If you’re not familiar with affiliate marketing, it’s a process where you promote someone else’s product or service in exchange for a commission on each sale. Many people believe it’s the perfect passive income stream, but it does take some front-end work to set it up correctly.

You don’t need to start a blog to do affiliate marketing (but it’s a good option). You can easily do affiliate marketing on your social media channels or via an email list. Instagram is one of the more popular places.

To find affiliate programs, simply Google “[product or service] affiliate program.” Start making a list of all the products you love (or places and experiences), and start Googling.

For example, if you want to promote Bluehost (a web hosting company), you would Google “Bluehost affiliate program” and then sign up for their program.

Then, once you’re approved, you’ll be given a unique affiliate link that you can share with your readers. When someone purchases through your link, you’ll get a commission, anywhere from 2% – 40% of the sale.

In fact, Michelle from Making Sense of Cents was making over $40,000 a month from recommending Bluehost. In total, she has made over $500,000 in recommending that one product with affiliate marketing! You can learn more about her exact process with Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing.

To be fully transparent, learning affiliate marketing isn’t something you want to do on your own. It can be very complicated, as there’s so much info out there, and the processes & steps are specific.

You’ll want to find an expert to learn from (trust me, buying a course is an investment, it will pay off tenfold and save you so much time trying to piece together this puzzle on your own).

Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing is a step-by-step guide to creating and making money from your own successful affiliate marketing strategy. This course explains all of the ins and outs, so you are never left wondering where to go next when creating and implementing your affiliate marketing strategy.”

“I now travel full-time with my husband and our two dogs, and I earn over $100,000 a month regularly from blogging. Whether you are a brand new blogger or if you’ve been blogging for years, this course will help you with your affiliate marketing strategies.”

(Michelle’s affiliate earnings)

I really liked her course as she explained everything from the ground up (and every brick in between). You were always prepared to take the next step, knowing how to make that next $1 and then how to make $10k in a month! Check out her course right here!

Tips on how to make $10,000 a Month

Create a plan

With everything in life, you need to have a plan. Just winging it will get you nowhere. You need to think through your options, get your systems ready, and get everything organized. If you’re planning on going online, check out the Blogging Business Planner to be sure that you have all your bases covered.

Be patient

Rome wasn’t built in a day, and your business won’t be either. You’ll need to put in the time and effort; there’s no way around it. But if you’re consistent, keep learning, and keep putting in the work, you will eventually see results.

Evaluate & Tweak

You’ll want to constantly evaluate your progress and make tweaks where necessary. What’s working? What’s not working? Make changes as needed, and always be open to new ideas. The best way to do this is to figure out what your metrics are; how do you measure success?

Data points are the easiest way to track progress. Get some spreadsheets set up for this and track these points once a month.

Never give up & when to pivot

Finally, the most important thing is to never give up on your dreams. Pursue them with passion, hard work, and strategy. Yet, you don’t want to keep banging your head against a locked door.

It’s important to know when to pivot or shift your goals. If selling your beautiful journals isn’t working out so well, could you redirect to selling digital planners? (these are really popular right now). Keep your options option and your goals flexible when looking for extra income.

At the end of the day

So there you have it, 13 ways to make an extra $10,000 in a month. Of course, not all of these will work for everyone, and you may need to experiment with a few different ones before finding the ones that are best for you. Again, you’ll notice a rise in home jobs and online business overlapping; that’s the trend (and it looks like it’s here to stay), so jump on it!

But if you’re serious about making more money, start working towards your new goals today. And be sure to come back and let us know how you go!
